Over 60 hearty people dove into the New Year on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 under blustery skies at the annual Polar Bear Plunge at Three Tree Point.

The plunge began at Noon at the south beach, and was surprisingly well attended considering yesterday’s stormy, downright icky weather.

There was a lot of wind and wave action, but luckily the rain held off.

Katarzyna Patora won the coveted Polar Bear Plunge trophy for the second time (her previous win was two years ago), in an elegant mermaid costume she made herself.

“Amazed every year at how enthusiastic and positive this bunch is!” Katarzyna said on Facebook. ? “SO GRATEFUL to be able to join people at least as crazy as me and face down the cold, wind, and waves to start the year and decade right! And SO HONORED to take this guy home again and put him in a place of honor. Thanks and well done everyone!!”
