This year things are…a bit different…to say the least, no thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has thrown a wicked wrench into our usual 4th of July community festivities.

But that didn’t stop Susan West, Aimee Lloyd and the Friends of Normandy Park, who innovated and organized a COVID-safe 4th of July Car Parade that started at Marvista Elementary School, then wound its way through the city in a safe, socially-distant manner.

At least 61 cars participated, including classic cars, sports cars, family cars, a milk truck, local dignitaries like the Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department, Normandy Park Police, councilmembers and more.

Publisher/Editor Scott Schaefer streamed the parade live to our Facebook page, and also edited a shorter version at 50% slow motion to highlight each vehicle, along with a very appropriate song – “Postponed Parade” – by local musician Ryan Burns (running time 10:49):

Local Boy Scouts from Troop #398 helped decorate the parade route with flags, which they also handed out:
