City Manager’s Report for week ending Aug. 26, 2022

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training begins September 8th
When disasters strike, first responders come in many forms. Often, first responders are our family, friends, coworkers, and even strangers. That is why the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program was created. This program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.

Are you interested in becoming a member of CERT? If so, free classes will be held on Thursdays starting at 6:00 p.m. on September 8th through October 13th at the Burien Community Center.

Join this six-week program that will give you the knowledge and skills to help yourself and your community following a disaster. You’ll learn several skills from fire safety, search and rescue, basic first aid and medical operations, general preparedness, and more! Following your training, you will practice all the skills you learned at our final exercise. The Final Exercise takes place on Saturday, October 15th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the South King Fire Disaster Training Site in Federal Way. All classes and the final exercise must be attended to complete the course successfully. If interested, click here to register.

The Census recently released more PES results, this time on housing unit counts. Click here to read more about why the PES is important and find out if Washington State’s housing unit counts were overcounted, undercounted, or neither during the decennial census.
